Chartis sought to modernize and unify the way US healthcare institutions conduct and document both quality-focused surveys and background reviews. The platform supports a full hierarchy: institutions, hospitals, multiple assessments, findings, and observations. Each level enables chat - empowering survey leads and reviewers to discuss and resolve issues instantly. Deep integration with Okta authentication and connected systems like Salesforce, Sharepoint, and Ambra unlocks seamless data flow, while automated PDF reporting and mailing speeds up compliance and agency communication. By digitizing, securing, and scaling every survey workflow, Chartis supports healthcare leaders in raising standards and oversight with less effort.

Challenges

Designing a system flexible enough for diverse hospital needs required extensible data structures and robust Azure cloud deployment. Real-time chat, dynamic hierarchies, and multi-stage review workflows added complexity to both backend and interface. Extensive API integrations (Okta, Salesforce, Sharepoint, Ambra) introduced further reliability and security needs. Automating mail report delivery, building customizable report formats, and integrating single sign-on (SSO) workflows all demanded sustained engineering and patient UX design. Ongoing feedback from active healthcare surveyors was critical for rapid troubleshooting and iteration.

Process

The team began with architecture workshops and mapping the entire survey and engagement hierarchy - hospital, assessment, finding, observation - and corresponding review flows. Developers implemented real-time chat at each hierarchy level, secure Azure deployment, and full PDF generation. Integrations with Okta for authentication, Salesforce and Sharepoint for live data sync, and Ambra for medical image handling completed the ecosystem. Automated email delivery, data purging schedulers, and SSO workflows were refined through QA and regulatory pilots. Iterative sprints with lead surveyors helped ensure usability, compliance, and flexibility for all hospital clients.
