Bicycle Health set out to expand access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals managing opioid dependence through a fully online care model. As the platform scaled nationally, it required robust backend systems capable of coordinating medication fulfillment, diagnostic testing, and clinical data flow with high reliability and compliance. The objective was to ensure patients received timely care while clinicians maintained full visibility into treatment progress.The solution focused on automating critical operational workflows while maintaining strict healthcare data standards. By centralizing medication dispatch, test kit logistics, and clinical integrations, Bicycle Health enabled consistent, remote treatment experiences at scale. The resulting platform reduced operational friction, improved turnaround times, and supported clinicians in delivering effective, continuous care without geographical constraints.

 

Challenges

Coordinating medication and diagnostic kit delivery across a distributed patient base introduced complexity around logistics, tracking, and fault tolerance. Urine sample analysis required integrating AI/ML models capable of supporting Immunoassay testing with accuracy suitable for clinical review. Ensuring seamless interoperability with EHR systems demanded adherence to healthcare data standards, privacy regulations, and secure data exchange protocols. Additionally, all workflows needed to operate reliably under increasing patient volume while minimizing manual intervention from clinical and operations teams. Balancing automation with clinical accuracy and compliance required careful system design and extensive validation.

 

Process

The engagement began with mapping end-to-end treatment workflows, from prescription fulfillment to diagnostic result reporting. Backend services were developed in Golang to manage medication and test kit dispatch, incorporating automated tracking and status updates throughout the delivery lifecycle. AI/ML pipelines were integrated to analyze urine samples and surface results efficiently for clinical teams. Secure EHR integrations were implemented to synchronize patient records, test outcomes, and treatment data in real time. Deployed on Google Cloud Platform, the system was designed for scalability, resilience, and compliance, ensuring consistent performance as patient demand grew.
