Workiva delivers an integrated, cloud-based reporting platform relied upon by the world’s largest enterprises to handle financial, risk, and compliance reporting. In this project, RemoteState contributed to a major service migration and API infrastructure overhaul, modernizing the core of Workiva’s messaging, scheduling, and notification stacks. The centralized proxy layer, exposing thousands of internal services through secure OpenAPI specifications and automated mediation, facilitated real-time reporting, improved platform resilience, and enabled rapid interoperability. Workiva’s technology now combines scale, security, and adaptability to meet the highest corporate standards.
Migrating internally critical services from legacy RPC communication setups to modern HTTP/NATS protocols required deep platform redesign and detailed backward compatibility planning. Building robust API authentication mediation and standardized request/response handling for thousands of enterprise microservices demanded rigorous security modeling. Balancing the need for speed, scale, and resilience across globally distributed tenant environments introduced challenges in queue management, error handling, and deployment automation.
The engineering team initiated workshops with platform owners to map migration dependencies, mediation workflows, and transformation logic required for secure API exposure. Developers built flexible proxy layers to translate business logic across authentication systems, standardized OpenAPI endpoints, and custom domain routing. Service migration specialists rewrote notification and scheduling engines, swapping custom Thrift protocols for scalable HTTP/NATS messaging. QA and performance engineers implemented automated regression and high-concurrency tests, capturing feedback from key client teams. Iterative launches ensured smooth transition, rapid troubleshooting, and uninterrupted enterprise reporting.

Workiva’s modernized service backbone, API proxy, and migration tooling transformed enterprise reporting and compliance. Enterprises now gain reliable, secure, and efficient reporting with reduced downtime and greater operational flexibility.
